Seller Description

This 1999 BMW M Coupe was purchased new by the seller in January 1999 at Greenwich BMW in Connecticut. It now has 115,500 miles and has been mildly modified with a Dinan ECU chip, cold air intake, and exhaust system along with a UUC short shift kit, lightened flywheel, Fluidyne radiator, and Bilstein shocks. The 3.2 liter S52 inline-six is internally stock and received regular maintenance over the years with the most recent service carried out about 150 miles ago in September 2016. This M Coupe is now offered with service records since new, some spare parts, and a clean Connecticut title in the seller’s name.

The car is an early production model built in July 1998, and the seller is a former BMW technician/service advisor. The silver paint shows well in these pictures with a few imperfections highlighted in the photo gallery below. The Dinan exhaust system was fitted at around 20k miles and is said to sound great. This car is equipped with a sunroof.

The seller states that he had the front bumper and support replaced twice and the hood replaced once due to two low speed accidents. One incident is reported on the Carfax in June 2007. The car is said to otherwise retain its factory finish and panels. Records of the repair work are included in the service history file.

All four factory alloy wheels are displayed in the photo gallery and were professionally reconditioned in March 2012. Four new Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires were fitted in October 2013 around 1,000 miles ago. The seller replaced the factory shocks with Bilstein units at approximately 88k miles.

Inside, the two-tone factory upholstery looks to be holding up well other than some expected wear on the driver’s outer bolster, thigh support, and steering wheel rim as shown above.

The door panels, carpeting, headliner, and dashboard all appear to be in nice shape in these pictures. The seller notes that the center console has some cracks in it, which are further detailed in the photo gallery below. A UUC short shifter with a DSSR rod was installed at around 88k miles.

All instrumentation, interior/exterior lighting, electronics, and features are said to be in good working order with the exception of an inoperable rear window wiper. The air conditioning reportedly blows cold. The seller used this M Coupe as his daily driver until November 2008 when it had 112,864 miles.

The S52 3.2 liter inline-six produced 240 horsepower in stock specification according to BMW. A Dinan ECU chip and cold air intake system were installed by Greenwich BMW before the seller took delivery of the vehicle in 1999. Additional modifications consist of a Fluidyne radiator and metal-impeller water pump installed around 88k miles, as well as a lightened flywheel that was fitted in November 2014 approximately 500 miles ago.

The seller states that this M Coupe starts easily, runs well, and has been properly maintained with synthetic oil from new. Recent maintenance includes the following:

  • 9/29/16 – 115,327 miles – oil change
  • 8/23/16 – replaced high pressure power steering line and reservoir, odometer bulbs in the instrument cluster, and the clock spring
  • 6/14/16 – replaced all four oxygen sensors
  • 11/1/14 – 115,014 miles – rattle due to flywheel bolts backing out of clutch pack. Installed new pivot plate, spring and friction surface on flywheel with new throwout bearing. Also installed new catalytic converter.
  • 11/9/13 – 114,691 miles – oil change
  • 5/26/12 – new battery installed
  • 2/10/12 – 114,543 miles – oil change
  • 12/9/08 – 113,049 miles – new starter installed
  • 11/28/08 – Inspection II service performed

Some undercarriage pictures have been provided that show off the Dinan exhaust system and replaced catalytic converter. No leaks or damage are noted by the seller.

The Carfax report confirms this to be a single-owner car. Eight service history records are shown along with consistent mileage readings throughout the years. The accident is reported on June 29th, 2007. The car is sold with service records from new along with some spare parts including a new shift boot, a 5th factory alloy, and other miscellaneous items.

I love watching coupes auctions on Bring a Trailer. This looks like a very nice one-owner. The accident was a long time ago, so I wouldn't be too concerned about it. The orange side markers in the headlights are the only obvious non-original exterior part. The dinan upgrades and UUC short shift are all nice upgrades.
