I have tossed around the idea of selling my M coupe for the past year or more, and I am literally sick to my stomach posting this. It's ridiculous, my wife still asks me why the heck I am selling this car, she knows how much I love it, but I believe the time has come. Our kids are about to be in college. . .that, and closing on a new house, will put things into financial perspective for you really quick. . .
Here is the deal. The car was in a wreck back in 2003 and was bought and repaired by the owner of the body repair shop. The owner repaired the car to keep for himself and finally sold it to me in 2010 (after owning it for 7 years) due to a left leg injury that kept him from being able to use the clutch. So yes, the car does have a rebuilt title. Wreck was light...All panels, hood, doors, hatch, have matching vin numbers as far as I can tell.
The repair was done right, the owner of the body shop bought the coupe for himself to repair and keep for himself...
Here's a little about the coupe and what I've done to it.
- Garage kept her entire life
- 88K miles, rides/drives/shifts perfect (I bought her with 46k miles)
- Reinforced subframe (not a Randy Forbes reinforcement, but never the less, it was addressed)
- TCK Rear Shock Mounts (now able to replace shocks from underneath without pulling trunk apart)
- Ireland Engineering Polyurethane subframe bushings
- Ireland Engineering transmission mounts
- UUC flexible stainless steel braided clutch line
- Cosmo Strut tower bar
- Whalen seat bushings along with seat tilt mod
- Brake pads replaced in the last 10k miles
- Amsoil synthetic tranny fluid in transmission since I have owned her
- Amsoil synthetic oil in motor always
- Newer Sumitomo HTR ZIII tires all around
- Engine is so clean you could eat off of it.
This has been my daily driver ever since I have owned her, until I moved to Florida a few months ago, where now she unfortunately just sits in the garage. I have put the last 42k miles on her and she has been EXTREMELY reliable. Everything I have done has been maintenance (and upgrades) except for the cam sensor that I replaced about 10K miles, average mileage for it to be replaced. No other codes ever.
The only thing that does not work on the car is the factory horn.
While the previous owner was repairing the coupe, he also addressed/reinforced the subframe before it caused a problem. The subframe looks perfect.
I have owned and daily driven this car for over 4 years now in TX heat, A/C on, and have had zero issues what so ever. A lot of the miles were racked up in the last 2 years when I drove it round trip 100 miles a day on I10 to work.
I would not hesitate one bit to drive this car today to California, as that was actually my plan one of these days. Heck, I just drove it from TX to South FL a few months ago. It is a pleasure to drive, shifts extremely smooth and the clutch engages/disengages at the perfect height from the floor.
As far as condition of the car: The only ding on the car is on the front of the hood, as seen in picture #12, about the size of a penny. However, there are small chips on the hood, lower bumper, and wheels from it being driven daily on I10 and I35. It is a driver. The car looks real good, but it is not show car perfect. It is an amazing driver that looks great.
This is someone's chance to afford a reliable, VERY good condition M Coupe that, like me, otherwise, may not have been able to afford one.
As you can probably tell, I am ridiculously proud of this coupe, probably more than I should be "for just a car" but there is something about these coupes, especially this one, that's hard to explain. . .
FYI, I will ask the next owner to give me the first chance at buying her back if/when the new owner ever decides to sell. Seriously. . .
