Seller Description

This 2002 BMW M Coupe is said to have been purchased new by AKG Motorsport and was subsequently modified for use as a street and track car. Revisions include Dinan Stage 1 engine management software, an aluminum radiator with an integrated oil cooler, an 18-gallon fuel cell, a 3.73:1 limited-slip differential, a fabricated exhaust system, coilover suspension, a wheel stud conversion, 17″ SSR Type C wheels, a Rogue Engineering big brake kit, an eight-point roll cage, Sparco bucket seats, Schroth safety harnesses, a fire suppression system, an AKG Motorsports Stage 2 shifter, and a MOMO steering wheel. Finished with a custom CSL-inspired livery, the car is powered by a replacement 3.2-liter S54 inline-six paired with a five-speed manual transmission. Acquired by the selling dealer in 2025, this M Coupe has 14k miles and is now offered in California with a seller-provided build summary, spare parts, an accident-free Carfax report, and a clean Colorado title.

The car is one of three M Coupes that were specified in Titanium Silver Metallic over Imola Red and black Nappa leather for the model year without a sunroof, and it received custom M-color CSL-inspired livery under previous ownership. Hood and rear hatch pins were installed, and further revisions include a fuel filler in the left C-pillar, deletion of the door windows, a front tow hook, and a fabricated front undertray. There are dents in the rocker panels, and additional photos of exterior imperfections and a detailed build summary are viewable in the gallery below.

The car rides on a revised suspension with adjustable coilovers with Koni dampers as well as Eibach springs, TC Kline lower control arm brackets and upper camber plates, a 23mm front anti-sway bar with adjustable front Heim joints, a 19mm rear anti-sway bar, offset control arm bushings, and VAC Motorsports trailing arm bushings. The 17″ SSR Type C wheels are secured to the hubs with TC Kline studs and lug nuts, and they are mounted with 255/40 front and 275/40 rear Toyo Proxes RA1 tires. Brake system modifications include a Rogue Engineering big brake kit with four-piston front calipers as well as retrofitted front brake air ducts and Cryo-treated rear brake rotors.

The partially stripped cabin had been retrofitted with an eight-point McMahon roll cage with door pars as well as Sparco Evo II US bucket seats, Schroth safety harnesses with 2024 expiration dates, diamond-plate floor liners, fabricated aluminum inner door panels, a welded dead pedal, a fire extinguisher, and an AKG Motorsports Stage 2 shifter and selector rod. Further equipment includes a Traqmate data logger and a fabricated switch panel with controls for the fuel pump, defroster, lights, and a cool suit. The Traqmate and cool suit controls have not been tested, per the seller.

The MOMO three-spoke steering wheel is mounted on a quick-release hub, and it frames a 170-mph speedometer and a 9k-rpm tachometer as well as supplementary gauges. The digital odometer indicates 14k miles. A power cut-off switch and an activation cable for the SafeCraft LT-series fire suppression system are mounted on the left side of the roll cage. The fuel level gauge is inoperative.

The replacement 3.2-liter S54B32 inline-six is said to have been installed in 2006, and approximately 8k miles are said to have been added since its installation. Modifications include Dinan Stage 1 engine management software, a Zionsville Motorsport radiator with an integrated oil cooler, a switch-operated cooling fan, polyurethane engine mounts, and an 18-gallon ATL fuel cell with low and high-pressure fuel pumps. The spark plugs were replaced in May 2024. The car has not passed a California emissions test.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a lightweight aluminum flywheel to a five-speed manual transmission and a retrofitted limited-slip differential with a 3.73:1 final drive ratio. The seller tells us that one of the rear axles was replaced in 2024. VAC Motorsports transmission mounts and subframe mounts have been added, and the car features a fabricated exhaust system with Borla mufflers.

A set of Kirkey bucket seats and five spare wheels with Hoosier and Bridgestone tires are included in the sale.

The Carfax report shows an open manufacturer safety recall.

I'm very familiar with this M Coupe race car having known the previous few owners. It's one of very few S54 M Coupes that has been a race car since new and has a long racing history. It was originally a very rare titanium silver over imola red sunroof-delete. It will be interesting to see how it does. Bidding up to $5,000.00 so far.
