Seller Description

Posting here first! I’ve made the very difficult decision to list my black on black 1999 M Coupe for sale. I fully intended for this to be my forever car, but life circumstances change and, as much as it pains me, the time has come. I am currently working a very demanding job and have several other time-consuming personal pursuits. This leaves me with very little time leftover to enjoy and maintain this very special vehicle. I also need to move in the next few months and finding another place in north Sand Diego county with enough garage space for this and my motorcycles is proving to be a challenge.

I bought the car in west Virginia in December of 2016 and have since put literally hundreds of hours of work into it. The car had a ton of issues when I got it, and I definitely questioned whether it would be worth the effort I knew would go into it (it was!). For starters, was non-operational due to a blown out giubo and slipping clutch. It also had some less-than spectacular repairs on the subframe and front end from the previous owner that needed to be addressed. On top of that, there were a ton of little things like a bad window regulator, check engine light, dirty interior, leaking exhaust, etc.

So I went to work:

Phase 1:

  • Seats and carpet removed for deep interior cleaning.
  • New intake boot and O2 sensors (no more check engine light)
  • Dropped the trans, replaced the UUC clutch plate, installed a new M5 clutch, and replaced the shift pins, replace the rear seal, changed the fluid and reinstalled with a new giubo and clutch line
  • Replaced valve cover gasket and spark plugs
  • Replaced window linkage and re-welded popped pinch welds in the door
  • Seat pushing and glove box reinforcement installed
  • M50 manifold swap (currently has the stock manifold for CA smog, but s50 manifold and all parts will be included)

Phase 2: Rear-end rebuild (this was pretty much my whole summer of 2019)

  • 3” steel tube replacing stamped steel crossmember and new doubled up diff mount bracket
  • Subframe and control arms and repainted
  • Brake calipers rebuilt and painted
  • Reinforced control arms and subframe tabs
  • Eccentric control arm bushings
  • New:
  • Brake cables
  • CV boots
  • Parking brake cables
  • Parking brake springs
  • Revshift 80A bushings
  • StopTech Brake rotors (all 4)
  • Diff seals
  • Wheel Bearings
  • Diff fluid
  • New Turner upper shock mounts
  • Stainless brake lines

Phase 3: Front end fix

  • The car had a front end collision in the past that bent the upper unibody framerail (where radiator crossmember mounts) and wheelhouse. The repair was not properly painted and seam-sealed, so it was beginning to rust where the wheelhouse met the main lower unibody frame rail.
  • I replace the upper frame ral piece and wheelhouse with new parts from BMW using ZincWeld, cavity wax, and seam sealer so there would be no future problems
  • While I was at it I replace the tie rods, front brake lines, and

Phase 4: Failed CA smog when I moved at the end of 2019, so I:

  • Removed and cleaned all injectors
  • Replaced air filter
  • Seafomed engine
  • NEW Catalytic converters (these are now $1100 EACH plus installation)
  • Passed! Passed again this past January!

Other Random:

Currently on e34 wheels

  • Fronts sick out a bit from the fender, but only rub when hitting bumps and certain wheel angles
  • Rears have 15mm spacers and still could be a little further out
  • Wheel studs and nuts all around
  • UUC short shifter and DSSR
  • Rear wiper delete (all parts included
  • Tein front coilovers already installed
  • Rear has H&R sport springs and Bilstein shocks
  • H&R front sport springs (for stock struts) included
  • Included a set of Turner Monoball front control arm bushings
  • Windshield replaced last year
  • CA registration good until Jan 2023
  • Currently has 136000 miles
  • Modified E46 Thule roof rack currently installed

Still needs:

  • A few random interior bits (AC switch, front
  • Drivers seat cover needs replaced
  • Paint is ~6/10 - lots of small chips, a few scratches and some fading. Probably needs an a complete respray at some point
  • Probably a bunch of small things I am forgetting. I will update this If I remember more.
  • Airbag light is on - I will be looking into this
  • Probably and alignment

This is a 23 year old car, so things do wear out and it will continue to need maintenance and attention. Please ask questions and inspect for yourself.

ASKING $24,500

edit:

  • Has some dings on both doors
  • Racing Dynamics strut brace
  • AC fan regulator last year
  • LED headlight bulbs

This is like a whole new car from when we saw it back in 2016. You could tell there was never a plan to sell it. It has SO many new parts and upgrades. The price seems fair to me.
