Seller Description

This 2002 M Coupe is one of 72 produced for the North American market finished in Black Sapphire Metallic over black leather and powered by a 3.2-liter S54 inline-six paired with a five-speed manual transmission. The car was first registered in Arizona and acquired by the seller in 2012 from Enthusiast Auto Group of Cincinnati, Ohio. Equipment includes a limited-slip differential, a sunroof, 17″ Style 40 “Roadstar” wheels, air conditioning, and a BMW Business CD stereo. Service during current ownership has consisted of replacing the brakes, tie rods, rear-view mirror, and clutch. This M Coupe indicates 59k miles and is offered by the seller with manufacturer’s literature, service records from current ownership, a July 2020 pre purchase inspection report, a clean Carfax report, and a clean Virginia title in the seller’s name.

The car is finished in Black Sapphire Metallic (475) and features fender vents, a glass sunroof, a rear window wiper, and quad exhaust outlets. Scrapes are noted on the underside of the front bumper cover and paint chips and imperfections can be seen up-close in the gallery below.

Factory 17″ Style 40 “Roadstar” wheels wear 225/45 and 245/40 Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3 tires. The brake pads were replaced in 2015, the front tie rods were replaced in 2016, and new sway bar links were installed in 2019 along with completion of a brake fluid flush. The brake calipers have been painted blue during current ownership, and curb rash is present on the right wheels.

The cabin is upholstered in black leather with matching plastics and carpets. Amenities include a leather-wrapped shift knob and handbrake lever, air conditioning, cruise control, and a BMW Business CD stereo. The rear-view mirror, seat bushings, and rear hatch struts were replaced during current ownership. The seller notes that the key will not unlock the right door intermittently.

A leather-wrapped M Sport steering wheel frames a 170-mph speedometer and a tachometer along with gauges for coolant temperature and fuel level. The odometer indicates 59k miles, of which approximately 39k have been added by the seller. Stitches are said to have been pulled from the steering wheel.

The 3.2-liter S54 inline-six was factory rated at 315 horsepower and 251 lb-ft of torque when new. A strut tower brace was added during current ownership, the coolant was changed and a drive belt replaced in May 2018, and an oil and filter change was performed in preparation for the sale.

Power is sent the the rear wheels through a ZF five-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. The clutch was replaced in July 2019 by Martin Motorsports of Alexandria, Virginia.

Manufacturer’s literature and two keys are included in the sale along with service records from current ownership.

The June 2020 Carfax report shows no accidents or other damage and lists emissions testing, registration, and service history in Arizona, Ohio, and Virginia through the most recent entry in November 2019.

A couple extra notes from the seller:

  • garaged the entire time I’ve had it ( since 2012) except of course when I was driving it (weather permitting)
  • there was a presale inspection done that GLOWED
  • it has a subframe reinforcement
  • it came in second place in the NCC Deutche Marque Concour d’Elegance in 2014
  • it has been loved and pampered by me - I’ve been proactive in taking care of it from the beginning
  • BaT neglected to mention that the right back bumper and front bumper have been repainted due to people bumping in to me when the car was parked in public spaces
  • there seems to be a general thought that super low miles are desirable, but in my humble opinion, having SOME miles on car is better - cars are built to be driven! Having them just sit isn’t good for them. The miles I put on my car were varied - a few long distance trips that added more miles quickly, as well as  driving around town miles as this was my regular car to drive BECAUSE IT IS SO AMAZNG AND FUN TO DRIVE. THAT is why I bought the car, and I hope the next owner will also DRIVE it - it LIKES to go!

Back on the market. Now priced at $49.5k which is probably a little optimistic for the mileage.

We last saw this coupe way back in 2012 at Enthusiast Auto and only 19k miles. The mileage has tripled, but it still looks good overall. I don't personallylove the blue brake calipers, but the Strong Strut bar is nice. It lokos mostly stock otherwise.
