This 2001 BMW M Coupe was delivered new in New Jersey and was subsequently purchased by the original lessee. The second owner kept the car through acquisition by the current owner in 2012. The car is finished in Black Sapphire Metallic over a dark gray and black Nappa leather interior, and power comes from a 3.2-liter S54 inline-six mated to a 5-speed manual transmission and a factory limited-slip differential. Modifications include a Dinan Stage I tune, E46 M3 ZHP steering wheel, Supersprint exhaust, and H&R sport springs. This M Coupe is offered on behalf of the current owner with factory literature, the window sticker, car cover, records from the current owner, a clean Carfax report, and a clean California title.
Nine of the 678 S54-powered M Coupes built for the 2001 and 2002 model years were reportedly finished in Black Sapphire Metallic with a sunroof over a Dark Gray and Black Nappa leather. The seller states that the bumper, hood, and roof were repainted under prior ownership due to gravel damage, and the same areas were recently repainted by 2M Autowerks due to stone chips and haziness in the finish. A scratch is present on the driver’s side door, and other dings are described elsewhere.
The factory 17″ wheels have been refinished in Chrome Shadow and are fitted with Continental DWS tires that the seller reports are two years old. A set of H&R sport springs are installed, and lower the car approximately 1.3″ front and rear. The car is fitted with a Supersprint exhaust system with dual twin-tip outlets.
The interior is upholstered in dark gray and black Nappa leather with matching plastics and carpets. An aftermarket Bluetooth-capable head unit was installed by the prior owner, and a conventional rear view mirror from an earlier BMW was fitted after the factory auto-dimming mirror failed. An E46 M3 ZHP steering wheel is fitted, and a set of aftermarket seat bushings were installed when the driver’s seat began to rock. The seller notes that the turn signals do not always self-cancel with the replacement wheel, and some material is lifting on the passenger door panel.
Factory instrumentation includes a 170-mph speedometer, a 9k-rpm tachometer, and fuel and temperature gauges in the main cluster, with three auxiliary gauges installed in the center stack. 77k miles are shown, approximately 17k of which were added by the current owner.
The 3.2L S54 inline-six is equipped with individual throttle bodies and sends power to the rear wheels via a 5-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. The ECU has been fitted with a Dinan Stage 1 tune which raises the redline from 7,600 to 8k-rpm, and the cooling system was refreshed at around 65k miles. The seller reports that the car has primarily been serviced by Carl Nelson at La Jolla Independent and All German in Escondido under current ownership.
The seller reports that the rear subframe has been checked by the owner’s mechanic with every shop visit. Additional photos of the underside are provided in the gallery below.
The window sticker is pictured and shows the original colors and delivery dealer, as well as the $46,135 retail price.
The original mirror has been bagged and is included, as are the original steering wheel, factory literature, and car cover. Records are included in a three-ring binder, as is a Bentley publishing service manual.
The Carfax report shows ownership in New Jersey, North Carolina, Virginia, and California. Per the seller, the car has had three owners rather than the indicated five. No accidents or other issues are shown.
