THIS WEEKEND ONLY PRICE = $11,000 FIRM --- Down From $12,000

Sadly I'm putting up this rare car up for sale, NOT because I have to, but to wipe out some small debt, and go forward with some investments. I will miss this car more than any other. I've already told myself I'll have another within a few years. I simply must make the tough decision to sell it right now.

If you know what this car is and have the funds to actually purchase it then please continue on. If not, please stop here, or click the back button. I don't want to waste your time, so please don't waste mine. I'd prefer a local sale, I do not want to trade for anything, and no I don't want this car listed for me elsewhere by you or your company.

I will not give this car away, I know it has small faults, and I know what these cars are worth. If we move forward I will point out each imperfection this car has in person. I believe the group of BMW enthusiasts that own these cars are probably some the best down to earth and helpful people out there and I feel I should be fair to the next owner of this car as well. This car is not MINT, however with very little time, and even less money it could easily be. I really didn't see myself ever selling this car, but with where my time has gone and is going I won't have time to get to the things I feel this car deserves.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Just had a Pre Purchase Inspection done to the tune of $200 at BMW of North Scottsdale

Absolutely no signs of stress in the rear, no worries about the rear subframe.
Overall the car is in better than average shape, however dealerships are very thorough so they have some suggestions.
The suggestions of maintenance for the car parts added up (even with new front tires) equals under $500.00, thus my price drop for a more attractive deal.
I've attached a PDF of the Vehicle History Report. Now, I owned this car for 5 years, and never knew it was a Lemon in the state of California the previous owner didn't tell me on purpose I realize now. You can understand my frustration. However - I know this scares away potential buyers, but I had BMW of NS do a PPI (Pre-Purchase Inspection) before I bought it and now to help sell it again, whatever fix that took 3 times to repair originally there are no signs of on the car now. That IS what the Lemon Law is. The car orginally sold. Then was serviced in Irvine, and the owner got upset with a repair that wasn't done right, so the dealership bought it back. EVER since then the car will be branded a lemon in the state of California, however it has a CLEAN ARIZONA title.

Basic Preventative Maintenance:

Most Recent: Brand New Fan Clutch in last 500 Miles
Within last 1000 Miles: Brand New Rear Tires + Oil Change w/Filter
Regular Oil Changes and Maintenance Intervals
@ ~90,000 Miles Cooling System Overhaul since the previous owner didn't give me any records I decided to be safe rather than sorry.
- New Stewart Racing Water Pump
- New Thermostat Housing and Thermostat
- New Belts
- BMW Coolant and Distilled Water Mixture
+ More with Documentation+Receipts

The "What's wrong with it" List

Exterior____________________

+ Hood: should be repainted in my opinion, clear in several areas is suffering, makes the hood look not so great. May be able to be polished/treated but perhaps not.
+ Roof: Just in front of sunroof paint has flaked showing a few small circles with rust spots to form if untreated and in wet area.
+ Rear Bumper, Driver Side: Paint chip and scratch, could be polished out. Missing one plastic clip, makes the bumper not line up perfectly. Bought the car with it.
+ Front bumper, scratches, marks, normal for a car that is driven over the years, but could be repainted.
+ Wheels have some flaking, I've never curb checked/rashed the wheels but the previous owner may have.
+ Headlights need to be wetsanded and re-cleared.

Interior____________________

+ A/C Should be recharged, along with a cabin filter replacement
+ Center Console - crack below gauges
+ (2) of the center gauges are burnt out. Needs (2) new bulbs.
+ Scratch in tint on driver side.
+ Driver Seat, better than average wear, but still some "worn" leather
+ Seats need new bushings, move slightly.
+ Window tracks/guides need to be cleaned. Thus windows are slow to go down.
+ Door lock tumblers need to be cleaned, locking/unlocking is slow
+ The Saggy Glove Box fix has yet to be done, when I moved I lost the "fix" kit, if it surfaces it's included

+ Pictures do not convey, OEM Head Unit/Tape Deck reinstalled - Working fine, but for a car audio enthusiast leaves something to be desired. It is a stock system.

Suspension________________

It's tired and it's stock. It's starting to get squeaky. Rear Shock Mounts would be on the list to replaced but honestly if I keep this car I'd buy a whole new coilover setup from TC Kline. These cars deserve to be put to their maximum potential.

Engine________________

Runs very good. Regular oil changes. I replaced the belts when I did a cooling system overhaul, (Stewart Racing Waterpump, Thermostat, Thermostat Housing, BMW Coolant + Purified Water.

Transmission____________

Feels like most 5 speed Getrag 320's I've driven. It shifts well. However, when the fluid is cold it can be a little notchy feeling. If I keep it much longer I'll be putting Amsoil into it, as I've read it does wonders.

What would I do next if I was keeping this car?

Fix the small annoyances.

New stereo system. (Stock as an audiophile leaves something to be desired).

The stock suspension is tired. I'd go the aftermarket route because these cars deserve a coilover suspension. From who would I buy?

Not because this car needs it but some Z3's experience a differential/subframe problem due to stress on the rear end I would have the rear strengthened as a precaution, thankfully I haven't seen any signs of this on this car. However, a man named Randy Forbes has a great rear end + differential mount strengthening kit that will ensure no problems ever surface from this.

Then, all new bushings, and some nice wheels (BBS or the like) with some amazing rubber (tires) and enjoy the hell out of this car.

Why The Price? Why so low? Why so high?

THIS WEEKEND ONLY PRICE = $11,000 FIRM

The price is low to make a quick sale. I'm not putting up with low ballers or window shoppers. Kelly Blue Book value shows 1999/2000 BMW M Coupes to have a value of $12,354 to $14,454. Now I don't believe this example is in the absolute lowest range, however I do want a quick sale. At the time of writing this I couldn't find that many M Coupes in equal or better shape at this or a lower price. Almost none with less miles. Even looking at the Vehicle History Report you have to look at all of the details, this car is rare, barely needs any work, and truly does not suffer from the dealer buy-back when it was first sold. The fixes could easily be tackled in a weekend and thus save you a lot of money over a lower mileage/more expensive M Coupe.

My Comments

Sold 2/13/12 - Sold again already!

2/12/12 Update - Price reduced to $11,000 down from $12,000 and a littlee more info added to the description. I wouldn't worry too much about the CA "lemon law" mentioned as that was over 10 years of good running ago.

2/11/12 Update - Buyer backed out the day of the sale. It's back on the market and still a great deal. Someone pick it up!

Sold 1/30/12 - Sold for asking price. Someone got a great deal.

1/18/12 Update - Price reduced to $12,000 which is a good deal for considering all the upgrades and maintenance. Some nice new photos too.

11/29/11 Update - Relisted on Craigslist about 8 months later now with 118,000 miles (up from 115,000) for $13,000 down from $15,000, and with a few more details. I can tell he's knowledgable because his upgrade list is about the same as mine :-). Having had the cooling system already upgraded is a big plus on this mileage of S52 coupe. The miles are high, but I don't think you'd need to hesitate to drive this car anywhere with it's maintenance history. Local buyers get an additional discount off his asking price. Check the Arizona BMW forum.

This seller seems to know what he has. I'd be interested in knowing all the little details, but it sounds like he'll only share with interested parties. I do very much appreciate and agree with this statement: "I believe the group of BMW enthusiasts that own these cars are probably some the best down to earth and helpful people out there and I feel I should be fair to the next owner of this car as well." He appears to have done much of the maintenance required of a higher mileage S52 coupe. I think the price is fair.
