Seller Description

This 2002 BMW M Coupe is an unmodified example powered by an S54 3.2L inline-six paired to a 5-speed manual transmission and optional limited-slip differential. Just 47 M Coupes were finished in Steel Gray Metallic over Black Nappa according to the to the M Coupe Buyer’s Guide. The car has 45k miles and was passed to the seller in 2013 by his father, who was the original owner. Delivery options included electric glass roof, heated seats and driver’s mirror, A/C, cruise control, uprated Harman Kardon sound system, and an M Sport multi-function steering wheel. The seller reports the car has been regularly maintained, and an oil/filter change, inspection and a smog test were completed in preparation for the sale. This M Coupe is offered with a clean Carfax report, complete service records from new, and a clean California title in the seller’s name.

Steel Gray Metallic (400) paintwork shows well, with no obvious color variation and a few scuffs visible on the exposed front air dam. Three separate and incidents are noted to left rear of the roof, front valance, and rear bumper, with each professionally repaired and repainted. Side and back glass is reportedly original while the windshield was replaced in 2013. Panel fit appears tight and consistent, and the exterior appears unmodified. Lock cylinders for both doors have been replaced, with repair records included.

The Black Nappa leather interior (Q6SW) interior is clean and complete, with the driver’s seat showing light wear to the left bolster and few scratches on the base of the passenger seat. Carpets appear to be in good shape with clean floor mats in both foot wells. Hard surfaces show light wear, but no chips, damage, or notable scratches.

All lighting, switchgear, gauges, and accessories are reported to work on this car, which is one of just 340 built for the final year of production. The interior remains stock and includes cupholders that were still optional in 2002.

The car rides on 17″ M Roadstars wearing Michelin Primacy MXM4 tires. All four rims have curb rash, and one wheel shows some loss of finish or heavy brake dust accumulation.

The rear luggage area presents well with clean carpets, an undamaged rubber gasket, and a few light scuffs to plastic trim. A hatch strut and rearview mirror were both replaced in 2011.

Only 678 M Coupes were delivered with the S54 inline-six, which produced 315 horsepower when new and is mated to a 5-speed manual and optional LSD (S209A). The engine is reported to be a strong runner with no current mechanical issues. Service records indicate drive belts were replaced in 2010 and a new fan clutch was added in 2015. A November 2016 service included a chassis lubrication, and successful completion of a California smog inspection.

Underbody photos show no signs of leaks or seeps, and no rust or notable surface corrosion are visible. The drivetrain is said to be unmodified, and a fuel system flush was completed in 2012 with new rear shock mounts added at the same time. A recent inspection identified the following issues:

Minor cosmetic blemishes, including wheel scrapes, ding to driver-side of front bumper, and several dimples on doors
Backlights for audio and climate controls are dimming
Front tires age-cracked
Right front strut seeping
A/C belt cracking and worn

This clean Carfax indicates two registered owners, supports the indicated mileage, and shows California and Oregon ownership from new.

Auction was removed from BaT which I've never seen happen before. From BaT:

After an extended discussion with the seller of this vehicle, it is become clear that his followthrough is questionable and that he has taken actions that will cause problems for any winning bidder. We do not tolerate such activity from dubious sellers, so we are unfortunately forced to cancel this auction, something we do very rarely. The seller will no longer be allowed to list, bid, or participate here on BaT. We’re sorry for the inconvenience.

It looks to be in pretty good aesthetic condition overall. It needs some miscellaneous TLC though. Having a long owner history is a huge plus. I'm excited to see what it goes for. No bids yet.
