For sale is a 2001 BMW M Coupe S54, WBSCN93451LK60145. The VIN lookup is at the bottom, but it is really rare (1 of 2, first manufactured). I am the third owner. I can count the number of times it has been rained on in my possession on two hands. It has always been garaged, and battery tended during the winter. It has approximately 36-40,000 miles.
Why approximate miles? While it was stored at my parents house a few years ago, the tender was not on and my father didn't drive it for a few months, killing the battery. Not knowing better, he pulled the battery to try to charge it, resulting in the 999999 mileage error. I have been unable to get the miles to reset properly. The dealer says it's probably the instrument cluster, but my research suggests it is not. Oil change record from 2012 says mileage out @ 31,978.
Next, the coupe was backed into by a truck/trailer hitch, denting the tailgate. It was fully repaired by the BMW dealer in Houston to OEM specs.
The stereo wiring is not working properly, as the previous owner removed the stock head unit and put in something else. He took most of the components when he sold it to me, and wired it all incorrectly. Since I don't listen to the stereo, I never fixed it.
Finally, one front and one rear wheel are the lighter color (the other two are the smoked chrome).
Other than that, totally stock, other than new seat runners (the old ones had the mooshed gaskets so the seat moved a bit) and the seat tilt mod.
This may be the rarest 2001 M Coupe in the country, in terms of configuration. If you are looking at these, you know they are exploding in value. The price here is a bit negotiable, but I am in no hurry to sell, so don't bother with lowball offers. I know what this is worth. Notice also that it DOES NOT have a sunroof, which makes it much more desirable. AFAICT no subframe issues, and the rod bearings have not been replaced. Brand new Sumitomo front and back, less than 1k miles on them.
