Seller Description

I am putting this ad together for my Dad who is selling “our” 2000 Silver M Coupe. I say “our” because I bought it new, and Dad “bought” it from me about 6-7 years ago as he didn’t want it to leave the family, (was my graduation present since college was free). So the title was transferred to them, but beyond that, single family ownership and I consider this a "1" owner car. Dad isn't as savvy on the forums, so I am putting this together for him – plus I know a lot more about what has been done over the years.

Ok, Dad has to "downsize" his herd - and sadly for both of us - that means the M Coupe must be sold. While this was not my first car - it was my second and has a lot of meaning to me as a graduation present, (from the Naval Academy) - lots of time in flight school, first time on track, etc.. - So whomever decides to buy it - we would like first right of refusal to buy it back when you put it up for sale.

Ok, onto the description.

Price: $18,900

Car is located in Anderson, South Carolina – about 30-40 min south of Greenville SC on I-85, or about 45 min from the BMW factory. Best way to contact is via PM to get my Dad's phone number or to talk about details with me.

Basics: 2000 BMW M Coupe, E36/8, Silver, black/grey interior, sunroof, extremely well taken care of, 95k miles, (we loved to drive it), custom stereo system hidden under the rear floor, many little upgrades for durability, ALL service records since new. Maintained by various BMW dealerships - mostly Century BWM in Greenville SC and fully gone through recently by my Brother-in-Law, a master BWM tech at Crown BWM in Greensboro, NC - and you can talk to him about what he did just a few months ago.

Aftermarket items: 18" BBK RK rims - 225's on the front 255's on the rear, Michilen Pilot Sports (I think all season, not PS2), about 1/2 life left. Dad says it does have some slight curbing on some of them - talk to him for more details - we can have them fixed for $50/rim but that is back up in Greensboro NC through my BIL at the BMW dealer there, (I don’t think my parents can just take the car up there for the 2.5 hr drive and back to do it unless it is with a full price offer).

Leather Z center console and door armrest cushioned pads. Has the ///M logo stitched in - was done before BMW told him to cease and desist due to copyright problems - i.e. not available anymore! Bought that back at the BMW Z3 homecoming back in 2000!

Full silver LUMAR tint all around - very quality job done back when I was in Pensacola, still looks great.

Stock BMW Z3 mudflaps altered to fit the MZ3

Ireland Engineering rear Subframe Bushings, (put in back in 2002).

Custom stereo and small rear sub - raised the rear floor via strong 2" wooden dowels, (I used the rear hatch quite frequently for lots of stuff) - two amps are under the rear floors - one for the 4 main speakers and one for the sub - custom rear sub box for a 10" Kicker L10, (square one). You can see from the pics - it doesn't rob much space and it is hard to tell it wasn't meant to be there. We had a nice head unit - it crapped out and Dad replaced it with this reasonable HD radio/CD unit. It works well and still sounds great.

B&B Triflow exhaust. Slightly louder, but mellowed after I first installed it back in 2000 - yes it has been on that long!

I also did the mod to the rear wiper to prevent "leaking" under accel, (check valve).

Shark Injector - I still have the "injector" in my toolbox down here in TX - I need to mail it back to dad. Did a Dynojet pull on it after I "injected" it - ~219rwhp.

Repairs:
For a long time, I had the 3M protector shield on the hood and bumper - after 8+ years it was finally coming off - it took some of the paint, so my parents just had the entire hood and front bumper re-painted - by the same guys that painted my Z here: (Super Datsun)

Front lights I believe still have the thick 3M shield and it has worked great after all these years. So bottom line - new paint on bumper and hood.

I had a camshaft let go on me and it was replaced under warranty - 1200 miles later, it went again, (found out later it was install) - so twice in 1200 miles. Dad had ALL lifters replaced, (ticking), and some work done on the head back at 76k miles. Turns out they screwed up the install again, (Century BWM), and he paid them to chase around a "camshaft out of phase" check engine light for 10k miles and waaay too much $$$ - my BIL finally fixed - b/c they didn't use the proper tools or didn't use them correctly to re-install the camshaft - the chased the VANOS,etc.. - bottom line, the cylinder head is basically brand new, new VANOS, new lifters,(now just under 20k miles), etc.

New fan clutch at 82k, belts at 82k and again at 94k when my BIL went over the car, 84k was when the above mentioned "out of phase" issue started - finally fixed for good at 94k miles.

Trans had the typical sticky shifting - they pulled and rebuilt the entire trans - only 1500 miles later to replace ALL syncro's - it made me really mad to read the receipts and see that Dad paid twice for basically the same work. Either way - trans shifts like a dream and has since then, (76k miles).

Here is all the work my BIL did at Crown BMW at about 94k – all new BMW OEM parts:
New PS hoses, New Guibo, BMW brake pads front and rear, bleed entire system about 5 times to get a solid pedal/great flush, Water pump pulley, all drive belts, valve cover and upper timing cover gaskets, spark plugs, coolant flush, PS flush, seat rail grommets replaced,(YES, no rocking seat! Replaced with the derlin ones, not stock rubber), tire balance and alignment, seat belt tensioner on both drivers and pass. side. Full Inspection 2 service, AC service, (was weak - now much better), Intake air filter, washer pumps front and rear and wipers. Interior lights down on gauges/etc.. replaced. Light switch (headlights) replaced. Also replaced all the BMW badges and I think all the ///M badges as well.

Bottom line - he did better than the BWM pre-owned inspection - everything he does for the pre-owned that go on the lot plus a lot of extras.

That is just the big ticket items - as you can see, this car has seen lots of care over its life.
So what are the issues/others?:

Driver's seat bolster has some wear, (not through the leather though). Previously mentioned rims have some curbing, (I honestly don’t know how bad as I haven’t seen them in quite a while). It does have 95k miles, but you won’t find ANY that have been gone through like this one has. We drove it, plain and simple – as they ALL should be.

I am sure I am not getting everything - I normally take the videos, but dad did this time. The quality is not quite what I was hoping and he is pointing out some things that might not matter to many of you - but you can at least see many of the big ticket items discussed and get an idea of the condition.

Emails will go to me. I can likely answer things better than my dad, (more accurately), but he should be able to get most of the items. One thing he mentions in the video - he states "a new engine" - that should be "like a new" engine since the cylinder head was completely re-done. So take that with a grain of salt and just use the video to see the condition vs. hearing what is going on.

This car DID see track time when I had it, but when I sold it to my Dad in 2005, it hasn’t seen a track day since - and I had replaced EVERYTHING that is of any consequence to track day wear - rotors/pads were replaced, stock suspension was put back under it,(I pulled it off at about 20k miles, put it back on around 50k miles). Bushings/any wear items that did not fare well were replaced.

You CAN find cheaper 99-00 M Coupes out there and you will find lower mileage ones. But NONE will have this much work done bringing all maint. up to speed unless it is sold by a BMW mechanic.

You are paying for a turn-key, no worry car. Pick it up and drive it to your heart's content - I would not hesitate to drive it all the way across the country. Tires are likely the next item on the agenda - hardness was tested by my BIL - he said they are still considered good, (i.e. not too hard from age). I told Dad not to replace tires as whomever was going to buy it would likely want to pick their own replacement.

I am happy to talk track suspension setups as I have owned this and an E36 M3 that I tracked extensively - I know what works on the M Coupe and can point you in the right direction depending on your goal,(if track time is your goal). If not - stock is still very good. I also used this car to develop the Oil cooler kit using OEM items - it DOES NOT have one on it - the last kit I had was sold off this car to Neil, (MDORPHIN) back in 2004?

Please PM for my Dad's number or with any questions. Again, car is located in Anderson, South Carolina - just south of Greenville, SC by about 30 min on I-85.

Bottom line? You won’t be disappointed and there should be no surprises. I have bought and sold lots of cars over the past 20 years - and strongly believe you must represent it properly - it ALWAYS comes back to bite you later. Besides - we would like the opportunity to buy this back someday!

My Comments

Sold 6/20/12 - I heard it has sold.

This is about as nice as a 95,000 mile S52 coupe gets. The price in the title says $18,500, but the text says $18,900. It has obviously been very well taken care of and the maintenance history recorded. It's also had some big ticket maintenance items taken care of semi-recently. The couple modifications are also nice. I think the price is fair.
